The Parish of St. George and St. Thomas

Chancel in St Thomas'Welcome to the website for the Parish of St. George and St. Thomas's Church. We are a Church of Ireland Church and therefore part of the Anglican Communion. Week by week people who have long connections with the parish and who live locally worship with those who have come from abroad to make their homes in Ireland. Although we are a small community of Christians we hope we are a friendly one and we welcome all those who wish to join with us for worship.

The current parish has deep historical roots. A visitor to the church will see that it is a relatively modern building, the foundation stone having been laid in 1930. However, the church replaces a much older building, which was consecrated in 1762 and destroyed by fire in the Civil War in 1922. The architect of the present church was Frederick Hicks who won two prizes for his design. Stained glass in the Sanctuary depicts "The Way", "The Truth" and "The Life" and these windows were designed by Ms. K. O'Brien.

In September 2002 the Church was the subject of an articles in the "Irish Architect" publication.

The parish Church is home to St. George's Brass Band which is well known in Dublin and beyond.

All records and parish registers up to the year 2000 are kept in the RCB library in Churchtown.
